Interviews are helpful to both the parents and the potential babysitter. Before you babysit for a new family, it is important to get to know about the family (as much as you can). It gives you opportunity to ask questions and discuss the details of the babysitting arrangements and expectations. At the same time, interview provides an opportunity to the parents as well, to judge the capabilities of the babysitter they are about to hire.
