Babysitting- Know Yourself
Know Yourself
Before you begin to babysit, ask yourself whether you like children. Think about whether you get along with your brothers and sisters (if you have any). Ask yourself if you enjoy playing with the little ones and if you know how to make children feel better when they are upset. Consider how you might react if they irritate you. You can take a clue by sitting with your siblings. Sitting with your siblings could be one of the hardest babysitting jobs. Your sisters and brothers know you and know how to get on to your nerves. Having younger sister and brothers does not automatically qualify you as a good babysitter. The basic qualification to be be a good babysitter is that you like children.
The best way to find out if you like children is to spend time with them. Volunteering is one of the best options. Park and recreation centers are often looking for volunteers to help with small children. You can call the day-care facilities and ask if they need a volunteer to help with small children. Many schools have extended day care programs for students. Inquire at a school in your neighborhood. Check churches and synagogues in your neighborhood to see if they provide babysitting during services. Being around with children will help you find out what age group you are most comfortable with.
Volunteering for babysitting provides several benefits. First, it allows you to find out whether you like working with youngsters and what age groups you prefer. Second, you gain some experience, which always helps. Third, volunteering your time shows that you are a responsible and a giving person. If you discover that you love babysitting, you’ll know it is worth pursuing. As a matter of fact, it can open other avenues as well, which you might not have thought about. Like you might consider opting as a teach as well. However, if you discovered that being around with kids is not what you like, you’ll know that babysitting is not for you. Volunteers don’t stick around if they don’t enjoy the work. Volunteering shows interest and if you’re a good volunteer babysitter, people will notice. If you think you’ve done a good job, don’t be shy about requesting a letter of recommendation. A letter of recommendation makes a good impression.
