Babysitting is a new beginning for you and your parents. Is it also a new beginning for the people you babysit for – your client.
The First Sitter
One of the most significant beginnings for you was the day you were born. It was an equally significant beginning for your parents. Their world grew that day to include you. To many parents, their child is more important than their life itself. You need to understand this bond. This is because this very bond could make some parents difficult to work with. It might help you to remember that everyday is a learning day. It’s not you alone, who is learning, but your parents, your clients, all are learning. Family values, being careful and nice, taking the job seriously are very important qualities, which you need to possess and demonstrate in every day of your life.
Parents focus much of their energy on teaching their children to be independent. At the same time, they do not want their children to become independent too soon. Everyone makes mistakes in life and parents want to save their children from making them. Parents keep wondering if they gave you all the skills, qualities and values to succeed in life. It should not surprise you to notice how proud your parents are as they watch you clear the hurdles of life and hear your success. Whenever you succeed, they succeed too. Babysitting is a new beginning for you and your parents. Is it also a new beginning for the people you babysit for – your client.
Key to beginning any babysitter-child relationship on a positive note is by anticipating the needs of the child and planning accordingly. Early anticipation will help you plan better, have less of panic situations and you’d be in control of the situation. This is what every parent looks in a babysitter. Also, always remember that if you need your parents support, do let them know.
